This template may be used in "References" sections and on talk pages to cite Lexicon Balatronicum: A Dictionary of Buckish Slang, University Wit, and Pickpocket Eloquence (1811), a version of Francis Grose's work A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1st edition, 1785). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books.

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the entry in the work quoted. If this is not specified, the template uses the name of the Wikipedia entry.
  • |noformat= – the template formats the entry name in a particular way. To override this formatting with some other wikitext markup, use |noformat=1 or |noformat=yes.
  • |2= or |url=mandatory in some cases: as the work is not paginated, use this parameter to manually specify the URL of the webpage to be linked to. This parameter must be specified for the template to link to the online version of the work.
  • |3= or |passage= – a passage to be quoted from the work.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
  • Wikitext:
    • {{R:Lexicon Balatronicum|entry=Bacon fed|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=aadWAAAAcAAJ&pg=PT22|passage={{smallcaps|'''Bacon fed'''.}} Fat, greasy.}}; or
    • {{R:Lexicon Balatronicum|Bacon fed|https://books.google.com/books?id=aadWAAAAcAAJ&pg=PT22|{{smallcaps|'''Bacon fed'''.}} Fat, greasy.}}
  • Result: [Francis] Grose [et al.] (1811), “Bacon fed”, in Lexicon Balatronicum. A Dictionary of Buckish Slang, University Wit, and Pickpocket Eloquence. [], London: [] C. Chappell, [], OCLC 23927885: “Bacon fed. Fat, greasy.”
